Alpaca adults weigh an average of 125 to 175 pounds. They live 20-25 years.

How much room do Alpacas need?

Alpacas require little space. 1/8 of an acre is fine for an alpaca and 4 foot field fence makes sufficient enclosure.

How much do Alpacas eat?

Alpacas eat less than 2 pounds of hay per day and require no special diets.

How old do Alpacas need to be breed?

Alpacas are usually first bred at 18 to 24 months of age. Their gestation period averages 11 1/2 months.

Are Alpacas easy to transport?

Alpacas are easily transported in a pick-up, van or trailer. They usually lie down in transit.

Can you use Alpaca wool for anything?

Alpacas produce fine fiber for spinning into yarn. Alpaca garments are very warm and lightweight. They do not easily tear, pill, stain or create static. Alpaca fiber keeps moisture away from skin and has an amazing ability to resist soil and grime.

Are there shows for Alpacas?

Alpaca shows and competitions can promote a single alpaca or an entire herd, besides being fun.

Do Alpacas spit?

Alpacas very rarely spit at people, unless you are a web designer.

What are the tax implications of owning Alpacas?

Alpacas qualify for certain tax advantages and are excellent for an income producing retirement program.
